Regulation summary

Hemp-derived THC products are legal in Louisiana but under strict regulations that became more restrictive on January 1, 2025, under Act 752. Products are limited to 5 milligrams of THC per serving (down from 8mg) and maximum 40 milligrams per package. Age restriction is 21+, and gas stations are prohibited from selling any hemp products while truck stops are still permitted. Smokable hemp flower and inhalable hemp products like vapes are banned statewide. All products must be approved by the Louisiana Department of Health and meet quality and safety standards. The state maintains one of the most strictly regulated hemp programs in the country, with licensing requirements for all manufacturers and retailers.
